The player retention window for the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season has officially closed as of October 31, 2024. All ten franchises have finalized their core lineups, resulting in the retention of a total of 46 players, with a combined investment of INR 558.5 crore.
With a salary cap of INR 120 crore available for each team during the upcoming mega auction, franchises had the opportunity to retain up to six players. This included the option of utilizing the Right to Match (RTM) card, with a maximum of five capped international players and two uncapped Indian players allowed per team.
The defending champions, Kolkata Knight Riders, along with the inaugural season champions, Rajasthan Royals, have opted for full retentions, securing all six available slots. Five franchises—Chennai Super Kings, Gujarat Titans, Lucknow Super Giants, Mumbai Indians, and Sunrisers Hyderabad—have retained five players each, while Delhi Capitals, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Punjab Kings (PBKS) have retained four, three, and two players, respectively.
Heading into the highly anticipated mega auction, the Punjab Kings boast the largest purse, with INR 110.5 crore remaining at their disposal.
